Increased number, value, of permits
PA Wellington Permits for the construction of 1963 new houses and flats, with a value of $94.2 million, were issued in March, according to Statistics Department figures. This was an increase of 41.6 per cent in number, and 72.5 per cent in value, compared with March. 1981. The permits brought the total number of dwellings authorised for the 12 months ended March, 1982. to 19.006. compared with 14.442 for the same time last year, and 15,197 for 1980. Of the 1963 units, 116 were
authorised by the Government. compared with 91 in March. 1981. The value of new dwellings permits for the year to March was $850.3 million, compared with $521 million and $462.2 million for the similar periods ending in 1981 and 1980 respectively. The department was notified of 1900 dwelling units started and 1500 completed, during March. 1982. compared with 1300 started and completed in March, 1981. Permits for alterations and additions to dwellings increased 16.6 per cent in
number and 34.9 per cent in value, compared with 1981. The number of permits issued for the year ended March, 1982. was 64,488, valued at $269.6 million. For new buildings other than houses and flats, permits valued at $68.8 million were issued in March, 1982, compared with $41.4 million in March. 1981. The total permits for dwellings and other buildings for iMarch covered construction to the value of $215 million, as against $139.3 million, in March. 1981.
