Juveniles an attraction at Auckland
Special correspondent Auckland The presence of leading contenders for New Zealand Juvenile Championship honours at Alexandra Park on June 26 is attracting wide attention to the opening night of the - Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow evening. Special interest will be focused on the fine South Island youngsters, Lyndon Robert and Mighty Me. -The club received such a large number -of acceptors for the Lordship Stakes, for colts and geldings, that another race -was provided and named, the Seppelts Stakes. • , A third two-year-old race.
on the programme is the Ladyship Stakes, for fillies. With so many candidates, competition for places in the field for the $25,000 Juvenile Championship will be unusually keen. It will be a major surprise, however; if Lyndon Robert does not score in the Lordship Stakes. The field is much weaker than that engaged in the Seppelts Stakes and only Dundee Chief looks like making a race of it with the West Melton gelding. Lyndon Robert has won his last three races. At his latest appearance he showed plenty of determination in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes at Ashburton on June 5.
Mighty Me is up against
the Southland-owned but Clevedon-trained Lord Manhattan and the North’s top youngster, Scott Baker, in the Seppelts Stakes. There may hot be much between them. The erratic Morrinsville colt, Supreme Ruler, could be a surprise packet. He has sometimes shown real brilliance. If on his best behaviour, he would be tough to beat.
Goldie Be Good looks a good prospect for the first leg of the T.A.B. double, the Benson and Hedges Pace. His main opposition may dome from Once Again and Conga’s Chance. Speed Queen, which seldom goes a bad race, is fancied for the second leg, the Logan Park Handicap.
