Nuclear weapons,
Sir,—l do not enjoy repeatedly correcting correspondents in your columns, so this time I challenge H. F. Newman (June 12) to substantiate, with reliable sources, his own claims and implications (1) that communist countries are ruled by small, impenetrable groups; (2) that communist parties are not open to all people in communist countries; (3) that communists win power by force without the consent of the majority; (4) that communists winning power through the ballot box are not inevitably subject to American-backed violent overthrow; (5) that I know any of the above.” As a Greenpeace supporter I look forward happily to seeing Mr Newman playing a significant role in lessening international tensions and propagating integrity, .truth, understanding and peace in countries subservient to the United States and/or sentimental towards Britain under Mrs Thatcher.—Yours, etc., SUSAN TAYLOR. June 14, 1982. '
