Radio, radio
Elvis Costello offered his services to the Auckland radio station which had been promoting hjs concert in the city on June 4, it has been reported. Costello was prepared to go on the air, talk to the disc jockey, and.spin a few of his favourite records. The radio station concerned turned him down.
Not to be outdone, Costello had a nice time elsewhere — at Auckland University’s Radio B, which definitely had. fewer commercials and better music that day.
■ To be fair though. Elvis Costello went to air on 2ZM in Wellington, and played a number of discs, including Noel Coward’s "A Day on the Piccola Marina," “Juanita” by Gram Parsons, and ABC's "Poison Arrow.” '■
The newmatics’ “Square One” also got a spin. Costello considered it to be “a cross between- Spandau Ballet and Dexy’s Midnight Runners, a bit derivative.” but 'good."
