Hillman Hunter gains reprieve
The Hillman Hunter lives on. It has gained yet another reprieve, for Iran and the Talbot motor Company of Coventry have signed a’contract whereby Talbot will supply Iran with more than 7(i.00() cars worth more than $340 million a year. The deal is similar to that
’ negotiated recently between ‘ the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board and Iran. Payment to Talbot will he by a mixture of oil barter arrangements and continuing
letters of credit. The initial contract for the supply of Hillman Hunter
car kits was negotiated by Chrysler 15 or 16 years ago.
The car, ‘assembled by the Iran” “Nationallndustrial Manufacturing Company, is known as the Paykan! The . new contract will materially help both parties. For Talbot it means a boost to the company's finances and the restoration of about 2000 full-time jobs. For Iran it means relief from the chronic shortage of spare parts and components for the Paykan, Iran’s most popular car.
