Supertankers out?
Massive supertankers, orders for which swamped Japanese shipyards in the early 19705. maybe, a thing of the past. Reports from Japan say that shipping companies no longer want supertankers, but smaller, more economical, vessels. One of Japan's big yards. , Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at r Koyagi, is building a range of smaller ships in its huge dock. Before the oil crisis shattered • the demand, six ultra-large crude oil carriers were built there. The company also had orders for three more. They were later cancelled. Now most of the work at the yard is either for domestic owners or small oil-product tankers. , - ? ARRIVALS ? Coastal Trader (7 a.m). 2500. Dunedin (U.M.S.). DEPARTURES . Erne (6 a.m.) 13,728.
