Wedding ploy by Sinclair?
NZPA staff correspondent An application by a convicted murderer, Alexander Sinclair, to marry his New Zealand girlfriend could be used to prevent her giving evidence to the Royal Commission into drug trafficking when the commission sits in New Zealand later this year, according to a report in Sydney. The “Sydney Morning Herald” said that after 11 months consideration, the British Home Office was still undecided about whether to allow Sinclair, known in Syd-
ney as Terence Clark, to marry the New Zealander, Karen Soich. Sinclair had submitted the application immediately after he was sentenced to life imprisonment. for his part in the murder of his former syndicate partner, Christopher Martin Johnstone, “Mr Asia.” “It is believed that if granted now, it could provide Miss Soich with a way of avoiding giving evidence against Sinclair to the commission,” the “Sydney Morning Herald” said.
