Trade with Chile
Sir;—l am very surprised to read that the F.O.L. trade ban on Chile is being maintained contrary to the desires of most New Zealanders and also contrary to the directives (if they matter anvwav) of the' I.C.F.T.U. Who is behind this ban? Why is it being maintained? It is disgusting that New Zealanders allow themselves to be bullied by the unions in this manner. The power of the unions needs to be removed, now. — Yours, etc.. J. COOPER. June 12, 1982.
Sir.—lt is about time this communist-inspired trade ban was lifted. Jim Knox led unions in New Zealand to believe that this trade ban idea came from the I.C.F.T.U. in Brussels. How ; ever, the only other country joining us in this ridiculous ban was the communist dictatorship of Cuba. Cuba's human rights violations rank alongside Stalin’s and those of the Communist Chinese, whom the Guinness Book of Records lists as the greatest mass murderers in human history. What is more, the Soviet Union has the greatest influence over the International Confederation of Trade Unions through its allies. It is time the media told the truth about what is really going on behind the scenes in the union movement in NewZealand. — Yours, etc.. PETER JOHNSON. June 13. 1982.
