‘The Road to Spain’
The New Zealand soccer team has travelled further and played more matches than any other to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Spain. They will be playing their first match at the finals against Scotland on June 15—as one of five countries, along with Algeria. Cameroon, Honduras and Kuwait, which are taking part in the
finals for the first time. An hour-long programme, “The Road to Spain" (National programme. 11.05 a.m. today) recaptures the Kiwis’ dramatic run through to the finals and retells their story of hard work and perseverance. Taking part among others, are the coach, John Adshead, and captain, Steve Sumner. •
Jazz band “Jazz Tonight” (National programme. 9.15 p.m.) features a comparative newcomer, the Big Band from Colin Hemming sen’s Well-ington-based Creative Music School. It is directed by Bud Jones, and the programme includes compositions by Mike Barone, Sammy Nestico and New Zealand's Chuck Fowler.
