Port Line no more

Shipping enthusiasts will no longer see any Port Line vessels | in New Zealand waters. The Cunard Line has announced that it has renamed the last two ships in Ports fleet.

The Port Chalmers has become the Manaar and the Port Caroline, the Mantra. These are traditional Indian names used by a Cunard subsidiary. T. and J. Brocklebank. which is believed to be the oldest shipping company in existence.

From when the company first started in the 1770 s until recently, Brocklebank ships flew their houseflag at the foremast instead of the mainmast. However, when the newlynamed Mantra and Manaar recently called at Bluff they did not continue Uns tradition.
