Abortion claim challenge
Criticism aimed at the South Island distribution of abortion facilities has been challenged by, the New- Zealand Working' Women’s Council Incorporated. The council’s national president, Mrs J. Nihoniho, said that a statement by a spokesman for The Health Alternatives for Women, Ms A. Williams, was misleading and incorrect. Ms Williams said in “The Press’’ of May 31 that Christ-
church was virtually the only South Island centre where women had access to legal abortions. The Abortion Supervisory Committee had failed to ensure that enough adequate abortion clinics were available throughout New Zealand. “The truth is that there are 14 hospitals in the South Island which are licensed to destroy children before birth," said Mrs Nihoniho.
