A helicopter was needed to fly an injured man to Kaikoura hospital yesterday after a heavy fall of snow blocked the only access road into the area where the man was working cattle. The man, Mr Neville Smith, was working cattle on Quail Flat, the back run of the Clarence Reserve station in the Clarence Valley, when

he was kicked by his horse. He suffered a compound fracture of the leg. The helicopter, flown by Mr N. L. Boyd, of Kaikoura, flew Mr Smith over the Seaward Kaikoura mountains and landed in Churchill Park, next to the hospital, about 6 p.m. yesterday. The hospital described his condition as satisfactory . late last evening.
