Skydivers told to stop

The Canterbury Skydiving Club has been ordered to stop activities until inquiries are completed into the death of a young Christchurch woman on her first jump last Sunday. The Civil Aviation Division’s regional director of flight standards in Christchurch, Mr C. G. Payne, said last evening that approval for the club to make parachute drops had been withdrawn yesterday "as a precaution.” Civil Aviation officers had met officials of the club before the decision was made, said Mr- Payne. Miss Bridget Hindson, aged 18, of Pages Road, was

killed when she fell 945 metres at Motukarara on Sunday. Her main and reserve parachutes failed to open, and a ground-proximity automatic-release device did not work. .. A team of Christchurch detectives is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. A C. 1.8. spokesman said yesterday that inquiries were not likely.to be completed until the middle of next week. A skydiving competition at Westport this week-end, for the Glenn Shaw Memorial Trophy, has been postponed pending the outcome of the Christchurch inquiry.
