Pope ‘to unite’
NZPA-Reuter Buenos Aires President Leopoldo Galtieri said yesterday that Pope John Paul would be the official guest of the Argen-tinian-Government during his visit on June 11 and 12. A presidential decree saidthat the Pope was coming to Argentina “to unite himself to the Argentine people in prayers for peace in the South Atlantic based on honourable justice.” The Papal visit to Argentina was arranged only days before . the Pontiff, went ahead with his pastoral visit
to Britain last week, and came after much discussion in the Vatican of fighting in the Falklands. ' To avoid embarrassing the Pope, British Government leaders took no part in his visit, although he met the Queen at the start of his tour of England, Scotland, and Wales. His , British visit was marked by prayers for peace ,in the Falkland Islands, and on his flight home this week the Pope said that he planned to take the same message “but deeper" to Catholic Argentina.
