Road links open
Arthur's Pass and the Lewis Pass were open for the start of the Queen's Birthday week-end last evening, in spite of heavy rain and some snow. The Automobile Association (Canterbury) reported that all South Island roads were clear and passable, but advised motorists in alpine areas to carry chains.
