PA Wellington The beginning of the Queen's Birthday week-end is the most dangerous time for motorists, said the Minister of Transport (Mr Gair) yesterday. Last Queen’s Birthday week-end. seven of the 15 deaths occurred in the first 24 hours of the holiday period, he said.
“It seems that motorists who reach their destinations realise how lucky they have been to avoid an accident and this has a positive effect on their driving during the return journev,'’ said Mr Gair. He asked all drivers during the week-end to be well rested, have properly prepared vehicles, and not drink and drive.
