Mount Hutt pays out on ‘snow guarantee’
The Mount Hutt Ski Company is now honouring its Australian “snow guarantee’’ by paying airline ticket cancellation penalties to Australian skiers who were booked to begin their ski-ing holiday from June 1 and who cancel their trip because of lack of snow.
Under the terms of, the “snow guarantee,” Mount Hutt undertakes to pay the airline ticket cancellation fees of any Australian skier booked for a ski-ing holiday here if Mount Hutt is not open and no other commercial ski-field in New Zealand to which they can be sent is working after June 1.
"The nor’west snowfalls last week unfortunately missed Mount Hutt. We hoped that Coronet Peak or Turoa would be able to open so that these few Australians
would not have to miss their ski-ing holiday,” said the chairman of Mount Hutt, Mr Peter Yeoman.
A spokesman for Value Tours, Ltd, which handles the majority of Australian skiers booked to New Zealand, said eight skiers had been due to arrive on June 1. Six had elected to come for the holiday, hoping the season would start soon, one had postponed the trip, and the other had cancelled.
“We have a number of skiers ’ due in the next few days, but most of them seem to want to continue their trip. They know that the weather can Change quickly and bring snow,” the spokesman said.
Although Mount Hutt ha§_ opened as early as May 6, the company budgets for opening as late as June 23.
