Stamps feature dogs
the 1982 Health Stamp issue marks a departure from the traditional theme. Animals, instead of the marine environment, which has been used as the theme for these stamps for the last three years, feature in the set to be issued this year. Three dogs are featured on the stamps. The two 24c and 2c stamps depict a labrador and border collie respectively, while a cocker spaniel is shown on the 3Uc and 2c stamp. These dogs were chosen because of their popularity in New Zealand homes, and the contributions they made
to our way of life. The labrador is a pet, a hunting dog and a guide dog, and the spaniel is one of the most popular and affectionate household pets. The inclusion of the border collie recognises the important role played by the New Zealand sheepdog. The set of three stamps was designed by Maurice Conly of Waikanae and printed in the Netherlands by Joh Enschede en Zonen. Minature sheets of two sets of each denomination will cost $1.68, and plate-imprint, positional or value blocks may be obtained by buying at
least six stamps of each denomination. First Day covers (91c) can be ordered and paid for at local post offices until August 4, or they may be bought from Chief Post Offices and selected post offices from August 4 till August 13. Orders for covers from the Philatelic Bureau close on August 4. Unless stocks are exhausted earlier, the stamps will remain on sale at post offices until October 5, and at the Post Office Philatelic Bureau, Private Bag, Wanganui, and philatelic sales positions until June 30,1983.
