Boulder City a prospect
Special correspondent Dunedin
Boulder City shaped as a prospect for the Prince Charles Handicap at the Otago meeting tomorrow when he worked at Wingatui yesterday morning. Boulder City was travelling well outside Supremity after sprinting 800 m in 54se’c on an easing inside grass. A three month break from racing appears to have freshened Boulder City, which won over 1400 m arid 1600 m at Wingatui in December.
Supremity did nothing to harm her prospects in the Moyles Handicap.
Smart Bijou and Lady's Gem went into their work, keenly to return 39sec for the opening 600 m and complete 1200 m in Imin 22.25ec. King's Ransom was showing clear of Chatter at the finish of 800 m in 53.55ec.
Sovereign Charles looked
fit for the second day of the Otago meeting when he ran 1000 m on the sand in imin 4sec, the last 600 m in 39.95ec.
Prince Trelay jumped five steeplechase fences skilfully and cleared two hurdles. He is held in regard for the maiden hurdles tomorrow on the score of his jumping ability. The winner of five races on the flat and runner up in 1979 St Leger and Awapuni Cup. Prince Trelay has been off the winning list for three vears.
Firpo, the winner of 15 races. Red Rebel (eight wins) and Sweeney Todd (10 wins) are among rivals for Prince Trelay having their first starts over hurdles.
Glenanton showed ability as a jumper when he partnered Rachete over seven hurdles yesterday. Lord Venture was also jumped as part of his preparation for the Henley Handicap.
