Prize trip to New York
The first Australasian man and woman to finish the Nike marathon will each receive a free trip to the big New York marathon in the United States in October. Last year's New York, which was televised in NewZealand, was easily the most memorable marathon for New Zealanders because of the incredible performance by Allison Roe, of Auckland, in winning the women’s section in the world’s fastest time for women. The first New Zealand veteran man and woman to finish the Nike marathon will receive air tickets to Fiji to compete in the Nike Fiji marathon. The man and woman who finish second will receive air tickets to run in the Coronet Peak marathon in Queenstown in September, while the third fastest man and woman will receive tickets to run in the Winstone marathon in Rotorua next April. The name of all competitors in the marathon completing a marathon race for
the first time will go into a draw, the winner of which will win a trip to compete in' the Rose City Classic marathon in Palmerston North. Another spot draw will be held for all New Zealand finishers, the winner receiving an air ticket to compete in the Winstone marathon. The fastest New Zealand veteran man and woman will
receive "Lazy Boy” chairs, and there will be prizes for the various groups of veterans. Gold, silver and bronze medals to . the first three finishers in each category will be presented also. In addition, there will be prizes for running club teams of three, business house teams of three, school teams of three, husband and wife teams, the oldest finisher, the
fastest male under 19 and female under 19, the fastest wheelchair entrant, and spot prizes for the finishers in the half marathon. The total value of prizes is $17,000.
