Stolen credit cards used for offences

A girl, aged 17, who, with two associates, used two stolen bank cards to obtain goods, to a total value of $3360, was convicted by Judge Paterson in the District Court yesterday and remanded to June 15 for a probation report and sentence. Tracie Cox. a garden labourer (Mr M. J. Glue), admitted two charges of stealing two bank credit cards and 21 charges of using the cards. Detective Sergeant C. A. MacLeod said the two cards had been stolen from a Montreal Street address where at the time the defendant was flatting. With her associates the defendant went on a shopping spree during February and March during which time the cards were used for' 61 transactions, said Sergeant MacLeod. Clothing, • assorted goods, alcohol, a leather jacket, footwear, meals, cosmetics and jewellery were obtained

with the stolen cards. Property totalling $278 had been recovered and compensation of $B5O was sought from the defendant. Cox was granted bail of $l5OO. ANTIQUES A solo parent, who stole antique items from two Man-. Chester Street antique shops and then tried to sell them in a third shop, told the police she was trying to raise money for her boy friend, said Detective Sergeant MacLeod. Linda May Randall, aged 23, admitted and was convicted of stealing a Royal Doulton vase, valued at $125, from Eureka Antiques, and a Bisque clock, valued at $125, the property of Kenneth James Antiques, Ltd. Both offences took place on May 28. She was remanded on bail to June 15 for a probation report and sentence.

Randall had attempted to sell them in a third antique shop in the same street. She had claimed the clock had been given to her by her grandmother. Randall was observed in the shop, by the- owners of one of the shops from where she had stolen one of the items, said the sergeant. $2OOO BAIL A man charged with stealing a car, worth $2300, and burgling a dry cleaner's premises, was remanded on bail of $2OOO to August 3 for a defended hearing. It is alleged that Paul Mervyn Williams, aged 28, unemployed- (Mr M. J. Glue), stole the car on or about March 23. and that he burgled the Colombo Street premises of Taylors Dry Cleaning bn June L David Owen Williams, aged 25,- a process worker, who is jointly charged with Paul Mervyn Williams with the theft of the car, was remanded on bail to June 9 without plea.
