Seeking wealth and power in Depression

As New York struggles through the close of the Depression, a young man. from the Low’er East Side applies all of his instincts for survival toward achieving wealth and power in the fabled garment district, in the first part of a three-part story, "Seventh Avenue," beginning on One tomorrow at 8.30 p.m. Based on the novel bv Norman Bogner. “Seventh Avenue” is the story of Jay Blackman, a young' man in his late 20s, unsuccessful in finding steady employment. Forced to resort occasionally to unsavoury activity, he becomes an ex'pert at crashing banquets to feed himself and his family. Though his stealing is the subject of heated discussions between his sympathetic mother and ' his proud father, who has failed to find work, he is determined to support them and assist his brother, Al. in his law studies.

Jay's life changes when he attends a wedding reception and meets Rhoda Gold, a young woman who works as a clerk in a Brooklyn dress shop, and Monty Cass, a Seventh Avenue showroom owner.

When he learns that the women's clothing market has been highly profitable even during the Depression, he decides to pursue a career in the fast-paced and often ruthless business. “Seventh Avenue" stars Steven Keats, with Dori Brenner. Jane Seymour. Anne Archer and Kristoffer Tabori.
