‘Rugby week’ begins
An intermediate schools’ “rugby week" begins today. It has been organised by the ’Canterbury union's coaching committee and this will be the first time that a concerted effort has been made to spread the rugby message to intermediate schools. “The emphasis will be on rugby as a fun game, one in which boys of all shapes and abilities can find a niche," said the committee's chairman. Mr Peter Robson. In total, there will be 23 periods, at times suitable to the schools, and some will be visited as many as three times. Mr Robinson said that the response from schools had been very encouraging. "Only one school had declined and that was because it fell that it had enough rugby coaches of its own," he said.
About 450 boys are expected to receive tuition.” The committee's staff coaching panel will direct operations, with extra manpower being provided by leading players and coaches.’
