Marler 100 years
The Marler family, who run Marler Shoes, Ltd, and
H. M. Marler and Company, Ltd, this week celebrated 100 years in the footwear industry, a period in which the family firms became influential in women’s footwear fashion. Among the guests at the Christchurch function was one who enjoyed his third celebration of a centennial in the New Zealand footwear industry.
Mr Michael O’Brien, grandson of the founder of M. O’Brien and Company, Ltd, was chairman and managing director of that company when it became 100 years old in 1966. In 1975. when Pannells Footwear, Ltd, celebrated its centennial, Mr O'Brien, who had given up manufacturing and gone into retailing, was the governing director of that company.
