Badminton championships
Canterbury, the pre-tourna-ment favourite, got off to a solid start in the South Island junior inter-provincial badminton championships at the Skellerup Hall yesterday. The home’ side beat South Canterbury, 16-0, in the first round, and was leading North Otago, 14-0, last evening. Top junior plavers from six
provinces are competing, with Southland likely to come closest to beating Canterbury. The winner of the competition will go forward to a national final in the North Island. Canterbury has retained Craig Crosweller, Shane Tetai. Rowan Adam and Paula Thorpe from the side which reached last vear's final in New Plymouth
