Help for Afghans
The New Zealand Red Cross will send a surgical team to work with Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan, the president of the society, Mr John Wilson, has said. Mr Evan McKenzie, a senior surgeon at Timaru Hospital, Dr David Wilkie, an anaesthetist at Thames Hospital, and Nurse Glenys Rodger-Checchi, a theatre sister at Wellington Hospital,
will make up the team, which has been recruited at the request of the International Committee of the Red Cross. All three have had experience of treating warwounded. both doctors having served in Vietnam, and Nurse Rodger-Checchi having worked on the ThailandKampuchea border.
