The environment
Sir,—lt was good to read your two recent editorials, one on the dangers of lead poisoning and the other on the World Environment Conference. Every move to heighten people’s awareness of the problems facing our world is very welcome. One main point you did not comment on in relation to the encroaching deserts, is that if 5 per cent of the money now used in nuclear armaments was diverted to fighting this problem it could be overcome. A complete reappraisal of our resources is needed and a turning from destruction to construction. This calls for an informed and motivated populace. — Yours, etc.,
JILL WILCOX. May 19, 1982.
