Veteran drivers to reappear
PA Ashburton Maurice Holmes will be . driving at the Ashburton j Trotting Club’s family meet- i ing on Saturday. 1 The meeting, which will t take the form of a family fun day, is being held to I mark the opening of the 1 club’s 1483 m all-weather < track. 1 Holmes, recognised as one of New Zealand's greatest < drivers, will pit his skills 1 against 10 other reinsmen in 1 the Sparrow Brothers Pace t for veteran drivers. 1
His clash with the likes of Jack Litten, Maurice McTigue, Wes Butt and Ted Lowe is likely to prove the highlight of the eight-race meeting. Holmes will handle Stortford Lodge — trained by Ted Lowe — while Ted Lowe will drive another member of his team, Templar. Other veteran, over 65 drivers involved are Arthur Pratt, Colin McLaughlin, Alf Bourne, Clarrie May, Alf Aymes and George Mugford. Supplement page 8.
