Collectors wanted
The Cancer Society was still “desperate” for collectors to help with its house-to-house appeal tomorrow, said the civic appeal chairman of the Canterbury-Westland branch, Mr Alan Taylor, yesterday, - Volunteers were needed in most areas of Christchurch. The appeal would start at 9 a.m. Most collectors would be asked to help for about an hour.. People able to collect could telephone Seekers at
Christchurch 792-720. Where possible collectors would be assigned areas near their own homes, Mr Taylor said. The house-to-house collection is the last stage of the society's Cancer Alert appeal in which it hopes to raise $2 million to finance education, research, and patient-welfare cancer projects. The Canterbury-Westland branch has been set a target of $l5O/100 for the house-to-house appeal and a total appeal target of $300,000.
