Sovereign’s Ace scores easily at Marton

PA Palmerston North Sovereign’s Ace gave the leading apprentice, Maree Lyndon, yet another win when he outfinished Fraxy and Langtry in the Taylor Memorial, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Marton Jockey Club’s meeting at Awapuni yesterday. Sovereign’s • Ace settled mid-field, and still had eight ahead of him coming to the turn. Langtry went clear, but Sovereign’s Ace finished too well and won by a length and a half. year-old is trained on the Awapuni track by Alan and Vivienne Kaye. Fraxy came home strongly wide out to snatch second by a nose from Langtry, with II Vento a length and a half away. John Wayne battled on next, followed by Kazalia, Red Terror, Kurdistan. Agent and The Pro. Greek Meer, Deino’s Ruler, Sharebroker and Full of Grace were all prominent in the running, but faded to finish well back. Nukumai gave David Peake his.third win of the day when he raced right away from the opposition in the second leg, the McManaway Memorial: Nukumai settled fourth last, but improved to be fourth turning from home. He soon went to the lead wide out and drew away by six lengths at the finish. Last Lu; another which improved going to the turn ran on well for second, and was three-quarters of a length in front of Reine Rose. Isle a Gree was half a length away, with Storm Signal and Novel Time next. Macahan led on the turn and ran seventh, while El Pedro shared much of the pace, before fading on the turn to run tenth.
