Zebec record
Zebec shattered the national record for one mile by a two-year-old trotter by 1.3 s in a special time-trial at Addington Raceway last evening. Driven by Ron Stechman, and assisted by a galloping prompter driven by Derek Jones, Dick Monk’s gelding, by Crockett from Zenover, recorded 2min 6.15. He trotted his opening quarter in 31s, reached the half-way mark in Imin 255,
and compie led the first three-quarter 1 in Imin 335. Zebec trotted boldly all the way. Stechmaju had to flick at him several times with the whip. Hei said, “He is such a lazy hjnrse, and only goes as fast tas any horse near him.” Zebec will' start in a totalisator race at the Canterbury Pt irk meeting at the end of this month, and will possibly «ttart at Washdyke next wee k.
