Conference elects tree crop officers
The new president of the New Zealand Tree Crops Association, Mr lan Howat (Waikato), and the newest life member of the association, Mr Doug Davies (Christchurch), will be representing New Zealand at the Australasian Nut and Tree Crop Conference in Perth, West Australia, from May 12 to 14.
Mr Howat was elected president and Mr Davies made a life member of the association at its annual meeting and conference in Chrjstchurch last week-end.
Mr Davies is one of three international speakers invited to give keynote speeches at the Perth conference and he will speak on how the New Zealand Government has fostered the development and marketing of tree crops.
The Christchurch annual conference also decided to hold the next New Zealand conference, at about this time of the year in 1983, at Palmerston North.
Apart ‘from the election of Mr Howat, Mr Owen Long (Auckland) has been elected the North Island vice-presi-dent, and Mr Jolyon Manning (Coastal Otago) the South Island vice-president.
The secretary is now Mr Tom Dinning (Waikato) and the treasurer, Mr Warren Stevens (Waikato).
These men, along with Mr Davies, constitute the management committee of the association.
The association had two life members previously; Mr George Halliwell and Mr Roland Clark.
