Tax-change questioning
PA Wellington The Government has refused to “guarantee” the Labour Party that pensioners would not be worse off under tax changes suggested by the McCaw committee. Challenges in Parliament to promise that pensioners would be protected were shrugged off by the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr
Templeton), answering ques-. tions on the Prime Minister’s behalf. Mr Templeton told the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Rowling), that the effect of the suggested changes from income tax to indirect tax on a cpuple whose only income was National Superannuation could “not be accurately predicted.”
