Freight tax on gas

PA Wellington The Government will replace road-user charges for tankers which carry liquefied petroleum gas with a tax on the fuel itself, it was announced yesterday. This has already been done for the transport of compressed natural gas. The Government said that the move was part of a plan l to help the Liquigas corm

pany to distribute the gas. Other forms of assistance announced yesterday are a two-month extension, to May 31, 1983, or the period in which a tax write-off of 106 per cent can be claimed on L.P.G. tanks with a capacity of more than 100,000 litres, and a replacement of the present temporary freight subsidy on L.P.G. shipments to the South Island.
