New operating table

Mr John Gibson demonstrates an Australian-de-signed and produced operating table which incorporates several special features and has been on show to medical staff in Christchurch. The table is suitable for all types of operations, including microsurgery. Its design also means that full and uninterrupted X-rays, up to 137 cm, can be taken. The table, which costs about $26,000, has been designed and produced by the Australian firm, Denyers, whose national marketing manager, Mr Gibson, is touring New Zealand with the product. It will be marketed in New Zealand by the Christchurch-based company, Benefis Travel Aids, Ltd. The marketing manager of Benefis, Ms Leonie Trubshoe, said the response so far from medical staff in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch had been “fantastic.” Next week the table will be installed at Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital for intheatre evaluation. It will also be tried in Christchurch, at a hospital yet to be named. The tables; 14 of which are already in use in Australia, take 180 man-hours to make and 136 hours machining. They have been patented by Denyers, and already inquiries have come from all over the world.
