Tax on books opposed
PA - Wellington Book lovers will lobby the Government this week seeking to keep books and printed publications free from sales tax. The campaign, organised by the Book Council, coincides with the annual meeting of the Booksellers' Association at Rotorua this week.' The association's director
Ms Kate Fortune, said yesterday that the Government had so far failed to assure the trade that books would be exempt from any sales tax. "Books are a special case because of their educational, scientific, and cultural role." she said. The conference will be opened by an Australian. Mr Michael Zifcak.
