Milk subsidy petition
A petition calling for subsidies to be restored on bread and milk, an electricity price freeze, and for health care costs to be lowered is being circulated in Christchurch.
The petition was launched by the Waikato Combined Beneficiaries’ Union and is being circulated throughout New Zealand. In Christchurch it is circulated by the Unemployed and Temporary Workers’ Union. A spokesman for the group said signatures would be collected in Christchurch for about a month. The petition would eventually be presented to the Government.
The petition calls on the Government to restore full subsidies on milk and bread, to hold electricity prices, to take steps to lower doctors’ charges, and to abandon the proposed prescription charge scheme.
