Addington market

Prices for prime hoggets strengthened for the second successive week at the Addington market yesterday. Over-all prices for hoggets increased by about $2 compared with last week’s values. The top price was 528.40 although most sales were made between $2O and $27. • Values for old ewes improved slightly and prime cattle sold at rates similar to last week’s good sale. ■ ' Prime Jambs A yarding of 1189 lambs, compared with 685 last week, contributed to a weaker demand. Prime sheep Hogget prices continued their improvement of recent weeks and rose about $2 compared with

the previous sale. Good hoggets sold between $22 and $27, with the best exceeding $2B.

Prices for old ewes fluctuated during the , sale and finished about $1 dearer than last week’s. The best bid ewes were in strong demand, but lightweight ewes were harder to sell.

Prime cattle The prime cattle section included several pens of steers and heifers in very good condition. Last week's values were maintained for the top quality stock, but lightweight cattle were slightly harder to sell. The’ yarding of 415 was 242 more than last week:

Several steers sold at. prices exceeding $5OO. The top price was $596 for. a Hereford-Friesian cross steer sold by A. Cameron (Styx) and $582 was paid for a Simmental cross steer sold by Fear and Gilchrist (Swannanoa). A large Hereford heifer from F. and L. Westenra (Craigieburn) sold for $498 and two others made $450. J. S. and L. H. Scott (Oxford) received $398 for a Hereford cow.
