Call to halt golf decline
A call for all gblf clubs to play their parts in arresting the decline in membership numbers was made last evening by the president of the Canterbury Golf Association. Mr Doug Cresswell. Mr Cresswell, who was speaking at the association’s annual meeting, said that the fall in membership was one of the biggest concerns facing the sport . A new inter-club competition will be introduced this season. Although named the president’s
grade, it will not cater for the “elderly” golfer. Eligible golfers will be those with handicaps between 10 and 20. The management committee elected was: Messrs A. V. Barley, A. J. Crawford-Smith, D. N. Cresswell, T. G. Downey, R- M Fanils, R. F. Gilbert, B. V. Glubb. J. T. Gregg, D. A. Harvey, B. G. McPherson, M. J. C. Robinson, S. Murray, G. C. Simpson, G. P. Walker, f M. Wright, A. J. Chambers (Central Canterbury) and a delegate from North Canterbury vet to be appointed.
