Easy win to Connors
NZPA Los Angeles Jimmy Connors, the top seed, easily, beat the unseeded Mel Purcell 6-2, 6-1, yesterday to win the $200,000 ($NZ262,000) Pacific Southwest Open tennis tournament in Los Angeles.
Connors kept Purcell off balance for most of the match, using crisp groundstrokes and accurate passing shots “I gave Mel some good, exercise today,” said Connors, who ' received a winner’s cheque of $40,000.
