Shipping news Formal objection to pipeline
The proposed pipeline from Lyttelton to Woolston for liquefied petroleum gas and the possible use of Lyttelton by tankers dominated the annual general meeting of the Lyttelton Environment Protection Society recently. Members of the society at the meeting resolved to object formally to the proposed pipeline and to a proposed L.P.G. storage depot at Woolston. A petition opposing the bringing of L.P.G. into Lyt-
telton. and signed by 1600 persons, was not heard by the energy select committee of Parliament last year. The petition has been presented to the Clerk of the House again by the member of Parliament for Lyttelton, Mrs Ann Hercus, and the society hopes that the petition will be heard during this session of Parliament. ■ ARRIVALS Coastal Trader (2500), 7 a.m., Auck.
