Money for campaign
PA Wellington Offers of money and resources for this year’s Nature Conservation Week are steadily flowing in, according to the Nature Conservation Council’s executive officer, Mr S. McDonald. The future of the annual campaign was threatened earlier this month when the Cabinet expediture committee decided to eliminate the $40,000 Government contribution as part of the 3 per cent cuts.
However, the Minister' of Lands (Mr Elworthy), has indicated that the department will continue servicing educational programmes. Mr McDonald said this would mean big cost savings. In addition, individuals, businesses, and other organisations have offered printing, publishing, and financial help. While these offers do not cover all the proposed activities, Mr McDonald hopes that with further effort enough money will be raised to run the campaign "at a reasonable level.”
