Winstone stands out

The New Zealand sharemarket ended the short trading week on an active, mixed note yesterday. The turnover was helped by the trading of more than 700,000 Winstone shares, most being in two special sales at 95c a share, 12c above the ordinary market price. Coal and Energy was also busy in an active mining and oil sector. Canterbury Frozen Meat was steady after the surprise announcement of the resignation of its chairman and another director. Leading issues were marginally firmer. The N.Z.U.C.. industrial index rose 0.32 points to close at 642.86.
