Minister thought he had ‘gone’

PA Wellington The Minister of Lands (Mr; Elworthy) thought he was going to die when he had a dizzy attack in his Beehive office on Thursday afternoon. “I thought I . was gone,” he said yesterday morning, home again after two days in hospital. Mr Elworthy, who is 46, is a keen jogger.

With some of his Parliamentary colleagues, he runs a “regular, gentle old man’s

run” along the Wellington waterfront. He was meeting a Wairarapa delegation when the attack occurred.

After they left, he called for one of the doctors in the House, Dr G. A. Wall, the member for Porirua.

Oxygen and medication administered after an ambulance trip to Wellington Hospital eased the dizziness and after an “anxious” couple of hours Mr Elworthy started feeling almost normal.

No-one seems to know what the problem was and he will return to the hospital for further tests this week. He may not know what affected him but he is sure of the reasons. T will be having another look at the appointments book,” he said.

Since taking over the Lands portfolio in the new Cabinet he has had a very busy schedule travelling from Cape Reinga to Fiordland.
