NZPA staff correspondent Sydney Isle of Man and the top Australian filly, Rose of Kingston, will clash again in the $200,000 A.J.C. Derby (2400 m at Randwick today. The Derby is the classic prize for which the partowner and trainer, Davina Waddell, has been aiming Isle of Man. Isle of Man burst on to the Australian racing scene with a superb first-up win in the 2000 m Rosehill Guineas, beating Rose of Kingston. But the tables were turned a week later when in the 2400 m H. E. Tancred Stakes .Isle of Man went below form to finish a disappointing sixth while Rose of Kingston kept up her strong performances with a third to the New Zealand four-year-old Prince Majestic. Rose of Kingston is a dual Oaks .winner, while Isle of Man is a dual Derby winner in New Zealand. Mrs Waddell, saddened by the fact that she may not be bringing Isle of Man back to New Zealand, as the colt is up for sale, said she had been pleased with his progress since the Tancred Stakes. Isle of Man will be ridden again by Peter Cook and is 3-to-l favourite for the Derby. Rose of Kingston will be ridden by expatriate New Zealand jockey. Gary Willetts.
