Transglobal love again

NZPA London Love has blossomed again out of the gruelling Transglobe expedition to the North Pole, it was disclosed yesterday. Romance has flourished so often aboard the supply ship Benjamin Bowring that the crew had dubbed her the “love boat.’’ Six crew members have got married during the last 18 months. Now the wedding bells will ring today for a volunteer seaman, Martin Weymouth, aged 24, and his New Zealand bride, Annie Stanley, aged 23, the ship’s assistant cook. They fell in love when the vessel berthed at Auckland

last year. An expedition spokesman, Mr Colin Eales, said yesterday, “It is the fourth Transglobe wedding — it must be the romance of, the sea.” The pair will marry at the village church at Heath and Reach, Bedfordshire. They plan a brief honeymoon . aboard before sailing with Benjamin Bowring to Spitzbergen in the Arctic where the ship will link with the expedition. The ship is due to leave Southampton next month after a refit.

Last year, David Peck, aged 29, the ship’s navigator, and Stella Bliss, aged 26, the stewardess, fell in love as the ship dropped off the expedition's leader, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Dr Charles Burton, and the back-up team at the mouth of the Yukon River, in Alaska.
