Ulster war widows start U.S. tour

NZPA-Reuter Belfast • Three Northern Irish . women whose husbands were ! killed by' Irish Republican I Army guerrillas set off on a ■ two-week tour of the United : States yesterday to try to stop Americans funding the outlawed organisation. “The American people will be told: one dollar unwittingly dropped in a collection box can kill,” said Marlene Jefferson, a former mayor of Londonderry who is accompanying the women. “How can they not heed us when the story is coming from the mouths of the living victims of terrorism?” The three ' women were married to men in the security forces, Marlene Wilson’s husband and brother were killed by the I.R.A. within 10 ’ months; Georgina Gordon's husband and daughter were blown up by a car bomb; Sylvia Deacon’s husband was shot dead. The women will meet politicians and visit Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, St Louis, Boston, and Cleveland. With them will be a Scottish Presbyterian minister and a public relations consultant.
