Coe gets Owens award
NZPA-Reuter New York Sebastian Coe,' of Britain, holder of three world . records. yesterday received the first Jesse Owens award as the world’s outstanding amateur athlete of 1981. Coe, aged 25, a student at Loughborough University, last year became the first
man in 39 years to break the record for the mile twice in the same year. He also holds the records for the 800 and 1000 metre events. Coe was given the award, named after the late Jesse Owens who won four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, at a dinner in his honour in New York.
