U.S. weed-cutter unsafe
This American brand of weed-cutter sold in New Zealand has been declared to be unsafe. Tests have shown that a washer (arrowed) holding the metal blade of the machine is defective. The cutter, which carries
the brand-name, Poulan model 2615, is made by Emerson Electric, of St Louis. An estimated 100 of the machines have been sold in New Zealand and the company’s agent in this country, D.I.S. • Industries, Ltd, has had notices printed
in newspapers warning people to stop using the cutter immediately. Factory tests in the United States have shown that the washer which holds the blades may crack, allowing the blade to come off. On the recommendation of Emerson Electric, D.I.S. Industries has decided to recall all the machines that have been sold in New Zealand.
The managing director of D.I.S. Industries, Mr M. J. Taylor, said that he was not aware of any problems having been struck with the cutters in New Zealand but the company was recalling the machines and was replacing the faulty washers free as a safety precaution.
