HART call on Games

PA Wellington HART has called on the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association to take “strong and unequivocal action" towards ensuring that this year’s Commonwealth Games proceed normally. It sent a telegram yesterday to the Games Associa-

tion which held its annual meeting on Tuesday evening. In the telegram HART called on the association to; • Condemn apartheid sport and all sports contacts with South Africa. © Seek an immediate assurance from - all N.Z.O.C.G.A. constituents of their full support for the Gleneagles- Agreement, and total opposition to all sports contacts with South Africa. • Call on the New Zealand. Rugby Union to abandon immediately the scheduled 1985 New Zealand rugby tour of South Africa.

© Remove Mr Lance Cross from anv elected post on the N.Z.O.C.G.A. HART said it considered such a stand to be consistent with the Gleneagles Agreement and necessary if the assurances given by the N.Z.O.C.G.A. at the Commonwealth Games at Edmonton were to be kept.
